Empowering Students through education


The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering has been with the institute from the time it was established in the year 1978. The department has been the centre of excellence in north rift for the last five years. The department offers a number of courses in Electrical and Electronics engineering as follows; The Department is preparing to roll out Higher National Diploma from January 2017. These courses prepare students for a successful career in such sectors as manufacturing, operating, service, and research with emphasis on design and development. Strong emphasis is placed on development of an in-depth understanding of fundamental concepts through teaching/lectures and is complimented laboratory/ workshop practice.

Objectives of Department The objectives of our Electrical & Electronics department are to develop: i. To provide quality education that meets demand and standards of industrialisation ii. To anticipate and fulfil the requirements of the students, industry and community by adopting best practices iii. To enhance the quality of life through teamwork and industry partnership Department capacity The department is currently made up of dedicated and qualified members of staff; eighteen teaching and two non- teaching staff members (Technicians). The student pollution is around hundred both continuing and in attachment. Students’ expected competencies and outcomes Through the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that students acquire as they progress through the various courses that are offered, the following student outcomes are expected of them by the time their of graduation: i. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering; ii. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyse and interpret data; iii an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams; v. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems; vi. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility; vii. an ability to communicate effectively ; xi. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
