Mechanical and Automotive Department has existed since inception of then Kitale Technical School in 1984, later Kitale Technical Training Instituteand now Kitale National Polytechnic. The department has relentlessly produced innovative graduates at various levels with appropriate adaptive skills necessary towards achieving national goals on industrialization.

The department has well equipped workshops which are continually upgraded to match the emerging technological trends. It also has a term of qualified teaching and non-technical staff who effectively cater for the academic needs of our clients. The department is an amalgamation of the following admitting sections. AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING SECTION The section prepares learners to be adaptive for endless dynamic automotive/motor vehicle industry. The section offers the following courses: 1. Diploma in Automotive Engineering (modular) (3 modules course) 2. Craft in Automotive Engineering (modular) (2 module course) HOS PATRICK K. CHELIMO MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SECTION This Section imparts knowledge and skills to learners to enable them fit effectively in mechanical production industries (production option) and constantly emerging industrial processing and plants (plant option). The section offers the following courses: 1. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering-modular (Production option) (3 years course ) 2. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Plant option) (3 years course) 3. Craft in Mechanical Engineering-modular (2 module course) 4. Craft Welding and Fabrication (2 years course). HOS LUMBASI J. WAFULA AGRICULTURE ENGINEERING SECTION This section imparts knowledge and skills necessary for agriculture mechanization/automation aimed at increasing agricultural productivity for sustainable national food security for the country. The section offers the following courses: 1. Diploma in Agricultural Engineering (3 years course) 2. Craft in Agricultural Engineering (2 years course). HOS JAMES O. OGOLA The department has also established a collaborative relationship with local industrial and organization with the aim of harmonizing industrial needs and training needs through field attachment design and execution of tailor made and short refresher courses/seminars and with prospects of establishing common research activities.
